ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT >>

The Department has high placement rate through all means, campus as well as Department to industry on personal basis or through alumni. Our alumni are well placed in various media organisations, private, public and entrepreneurial, in eminent positions. Many alumni are presently placed in the PR and other Departments of the Government of Punjab. The Department encourages the concept of earning while learning and many students are absorbed into media organisations after internship during their studies and thus , are able to stand on their own feet.The Department supports the students in their endeavours.

More than anything else, I learnt life skills at DJMC , Laddewali. These were the skills that helped me shape my career and deal with every challenge at work spaces confidently.I stayed at the hostel there for 2 years and my department made me feel at home and all our lecturers were more than a family to me. They taught not just what was there in the books but inspired each one of us to hold the reins of our lives with might and passion!

Media Studies is the most suitable subject for any kind of interdisciplinary research, ranging from Women Issues or Human Rights to Psychology and Politics, Financial Issues to Cyber World.

Research Experience and Awards of Faculty Members

Dr. Namarta Joshi, Associate Prof and Head of the Department, has 25 years of experience in teaching and research. She specializes in Film Studies and Women issues . She has been awarded the Nav Kiran Award at the 6th National Women Excellence Award -2013 function at India International Centre, New Delhi, on November 25, 2013, for contribution to education and women issues, by Yog Confederation of India on the occasion of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, as a programme of North Eastern Council, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India. Also awarded Women Achiever of the Year Award for contribution to the field of Education by St. Soldiers Group of Industries on International Women’s Day , March 8, 2016. She has attended many conferences and presented papers or chaired sessions in regional, national and international conferences including those in Mauritius , UK, Thailand and Malaysia.

Dr. Charan Kamal Walia has a research experience of more than 11 years. She has written over 15 research papers which got published in various refereed and ugc approved research journals . She has attended many national and international conferences as well as various research and teaching related workshops in her teaching experience of 14 years.She has given research guidance to more than 60 students at their master’s level course. Presently, four research scholars are doing their Ph. D research work under her supervision.
